HAI HELI EXPO Anaheim Feb 2024

It was our privilege to be sponsored by the Helicopter Association International (now Vertical Aviation International - VAI) to attend the HELI EXPO in Anaheim, California in February. NV3 displayed the only methods by which paraplegics can fly helicopters. We are grateful to Patrick Smith for the exhibit of his Gazelle Helicopter, in which we were able to host the aeroleg - the only FAA approved device for paraplegic pilots to fly certified helicopters. And we were able to exhibit NV3's "Stars and Stripes" Rotorway 162F experimental helicopter that Stewart built at Rotorway Reworks in Florida - in the shop of Bob St Denis, retired Navy - to integrate the aeroleg into the aircraft.

Many thanks to a host of people who helped us with the exhibit in Anaheim:

  • Greg Brown, Emily Monahan, Cade Clark and John Shea from HAI
  • Patrick Smith for the loan of the Gazelle Helicopter
  • Chris Barton and Mark Martin of Rotor Leasing for their work on the Gazelle and participation in the exhibit
  • Sally Feldhaus and the members of the Anaheim Military Support Committee
  • Congressman J. Luis Correa (D-CA), Field Representative Janet Brown
  • ABC News
  • Anaheim Police Department
  • Barbara Riley, who helped King feel at home and made sure we were taken care of
  • All of those who visited our exhibit and contributed to NV3

Army Aviation Association of America (AAAA) Mission Solutions Summit Aurora, CO April 2024

NV3 was able to take in the AAAA Summit in Aurora Colorado in April. It was a great event with lots of national and international military helicopter enthusiasts and vendors. King got his badge first (as always) and we had a great time looking at the latest.

HAI HELI EXPO Atlanta 2023

“In March 2023, NV3 was provided a booth at the Helicopter Association International (HAI) HELI EXPO in Atlanta, GA, where many more people were exposed to the vocational aviation program for disabled veterans.

The world’s first helicopter (the Stars and Stripes) designed specifically for paraplegic flight was exhibited at the show. We are grateful to Greg Brown and Emily Monahan of HAI for their fantastic support!”

EAA AirVenture AirVenture Oshkosh 2022

Whoever said that “getting there is half the battle”

never spoke truer words. A flat tire on the trailer delayed our travel, but with a little help from friends at S&M Repair and Towing, and ColoradoLand Tire and Service, we were able to get back on the road and arrive at Oshkosh safely with the helicopter in tow.

Unfortunately, after we arrived, a microburst tore the canopy from the RV and totaled it.

Yet, great trials and perseverance produce great rewards and the media exposure NV3 received from the show totaled over four and a half million people becoming more aware of the plight of veterans.

Initial Efforts 2020-2021

NV3 started operations in 2019, initially focusing on obtaining land for our village concept, but when COVID hit, we quickly realized that the timing was not right and that NV3 needed to establish resilience and vocational programs and begin serving veterans instead of focusing on property development.

During COVID in 2020 and 2021, Kristen embarked on obtaining certifications for grief and resilience training, including conducting several events and activities online, so that when the village was established, she would be able to engage veterans in the program.

Stewart moved to Lake City, Florida, where he created an instructional vocational  program to assemble Rotorway helicopters. In this two-year period, he built the first helicopter in the world specifically designed for a paraplegic to fly. Using his engineering knowledge, he also built two other helicopters, one for a paraplegic veteran in Ohio.
